• The breach was first reported to Farmers by a third-party vendor on May 30th but not announced to agents until late August. As many as 1.1 million customers have been affected.
• Farmers has found no evidence that the breached data has been misused and is contacting affected individuals directly, providing support, including complimentary credit monitoring.
• This event reminds us of the importance of cybersecurity, particularly when sensitive personal data may be exposed through third-party vendors. We encourage all agents to review their own cybersecurity protocols, especially with vendors, and to guide clients in watching for phishing, fraud, or signs of identity theft.
