The United Farmers Agents Association
"Journey to 3,000"
October 1, 1998
Update #98-35
Bill Miller has assumed the presidency of Chapter 30 in Little Rock. His address is 10020 Rodney Parham A-1, Little Rock, AR 72227. (P) 501-223-2661 and (F) 501-223-3031. Welcome Bill.
Doug Embrey has received his termination notice, which cites "conflicts of interest." Several months ago, the state executive said Doug could not be both an agent and a lawyer. Yet, we already have the names of several Farmers agents that are also lawyers WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY. Two things: 1) If you know about an agent/lawyer in your area, let us know ASAP and 2) For those wanting to make donations, send your check to UFAA and mark it "Embrey Legal Fund." The Board is working on funding his cause also.
The latest revision to the Agents Guide contains an interesting addition. On page I-61, they added, "Gross commissions will be reduced by authorized deductions, payments made on the agent's behalf - such as appointment fees, and other amounts which may be made from time." The addition seems to allow someone in my check book (other than my wife) without my prior knowledge or permission.
Charles Lively recently resigned. He was a major player in the growth and accomplishments of UFAA and we will miss his contributions. Best of luck in the future Charles.
The CEAA meeting went very well. Don Cassell from NIICA (Nationwide) was elected President for the next two years. Plans were made, people were placed in charge and we are off and running. Look for more information on a regular basis soon. Incidentally, NIICA just filed a lawsuit over the monthly cost of their computer. Their contracts read very similar to ours ("To provide approved Company manuals, forms and policyholder records necessary to carry out the provisions of this agreement."). We will keep you posted on their progress. Mark and Chuck will have their reports in next weeks update.
Funny sounds are being heard from across the country. It seems that Farmers and MCA will be combined in July 1999. Then MCA will be designated a sub-standard carrier and compete in that market. Farmers will have a three tiered pricing structure and a one tier commission structure- 7%. A whopping 30% REDUCTION IN AUTO COMMISSIONS. Ask your DM, they are supposed to already have the basic information. And let him know how you feel.
