Chapter President Update #98-33
Some very sad news. Tom Vinson's son Tommy died in a freak accident in Houston. I don't have any more information right now, but a memorial fund is being established. If you need any more information immediately, contact Dale Moon. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
At the June 1999, we will elect the following National Officers: Vice-President, Treasurer, Director of Membership, and Director of Governmental Affairs. In addition, the Director of Media Relations position will be up for election because Paul was appointed in an interim capacity. It's not too early to start thinking about nominees for each position. Bill Weyker has been elected Chairman of the nominating committee.
Are any of you really knowledgeable about our E&O policy? Are non-insurance products, offered by agents, covered by the policy? Let me know as soon as possible.
The Voice should be at your door any day now. Some great articles and some good surveys. Encourage your members to complete the surveys, write the letters and recruit new members.
Speaking of The Voice, Paul is starting to gather articles for the December issue. If you have an idea, an article or a suggestion, call Paul at 817-737-8989.
Nationwide Insurance reached a tentative settlement in a class action lawsuit on September 8th according to USA Today and the Wall Street Journal. The estimated $100 million settlement involved "deceptive life insurance sales practices" just like State Farm (estimated settlement $200 million) and the Prudential settlement some years ago.
Question from a member. Can a non-CQA agent, licensed with a member company of the Zurich Financial Services Group, write commercial business with them rather than go through the 60 day process to get a quote from the commercial department of Farmers? Your thoughts and opinions please.
We would like to create a mission statement for UFAA. Send your comments and suggestions to me as soon as possible.
That's it for this week. It's time to recruit some new members.
